How to add your name and date on a photo

  1. Add your photo: a recent, front-facing photo on a plain light background.
  2. Type your name exactly as on your documents, pick the date the photo was taken and the date format your notice uses.
  3. Set the size from your form’s instructions: width × height in pixels, and the minimum and maximum KB. Move or zoom the photo so your face is centred.
  4. Download the JPG: the status line shows the exact pixels and KB before you save.

Why the size always fits

Name and date: what forms usually ask for

Instruction in the noticeSetting to use
“Name and date of photograph printed below the photo”Name and date (2 lines), below the photo
“Date of taking photograph should be visible”Date only, or name and date
Size “between 20 KB and 50 KB”Minimum 20, maximum 50
“3.5 cm × 4.5 cm”413 × 531 px (300 DPI) or 276 × 354 px (200 DPI)

Requirements change from one notice to the next, so always check the current instructions for your exam or job. The photo must be recent: don’t put today’s date on an old photo.

Tips for a photo that gets accepted

Frequently asked questions

Will the name and date cover my face?

No. By default the strip is added below the photo and the photo is fitted above it, so nothing is covered. You can also put the text on the bottom of the photo if your form asks for that.

Which date should I write?

Use the date the photo was taken, unless your form says otherwise. Many exam forms ask for a recent photo (often taken within the last few months) with that date on it. Choose the date format your notice uses, for example DD/MM/YYYY or DD-MM-YYYY.

How is the file kept between the minimum and maximum KB?

The tool tries JPEG qualities until it finds the best one under your maximum. If the photo is still smaller than your minimum, invisible padding is added to the file (the picture doesn’t change), so the size lands just above the minimum.

What pixel size should I choose?

Use the width and height in your form’s instructions. 413 × 531 px is 3.5 × 4.5 cm at 300 DPI, the usual passport-photo shape; choose “Other size” to type any size. The photo is cropped to that shape, and you can move and zoom it.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so the photo never leaves your device.
