How to make a contact sheet

- Choose the layout: paper, orientation, photos across, caption, order and background.
- Add a title such as the client, event or roll number.
- Download the PDF to print, email or share.
Photos per page
| Across | A4 portrait | A4 landscape |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 15 | 6 |
| 5 | 35 | 15 |
| 8 | 80 | 40 |
With a title, number, file name and date under each photo. On US Letter the counts are slightly lower (5 across portrait: 30); the status line shows the exact number before you download.
Features
- Numbers and file names under each frame, so clients can pick by number or name.
- Date taken read from each photo’s EXIF data, and sorting by date, name or the order you added them.
- Film-style black background, or white for printing with less ink.
- Whole frames: thumbnails are never cropped, so portrait and landscape photos both show completely.
To print the chosen photos at real sizes afterwards, use print multiple photos on one page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a contact sheet used for?
Photographers use contact sheets to show clients a whole shoot at once so they can pick favourites by number or file name. They are also handy for cataloguing scans, choosing photos for an album and checking a folder before printing.
How many photos fit on a page?
On portrait A4 with a title, names and dates: 35 per page with 5 across (5 × 7), 80 with 8 across, and 15 larger thumbnails with 3 across. US Letter fits slightly fewer (30 with 5 across).
Where does the date come from?
From the date taken saved by the camera or phone (EXIF). Photos without it show “no date”. Sorting by date uses the same value.
Can I use RAW or HEIC files?
Not directly; browsers can’t read them. Export JPGs first (any size: thumbnails are small).
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so your photos never leave your device.
