How to remove EXIF data from photos
- Add your photos: each one lists its camera, date, software, location and other data blocks.
- “All metadata” is selected; download each photo or all of them.
- Check the result line: it confirms what was removed after re-reading the saved file.
What is removed and what is kept
| Data | JPG | PNG | WebP |
|---|---|---|---|
| EXIF (camera, date, GPS, settings, thumbnail) | Removed | Removed | Removed |
| XMP and IPTC (editing apps, captions, keywords) | Removed | Removed | Removed |
| Comments and text chunks | Removed | Removed | – |
| Rotation | Kept as a tiny EXIF block with only the rotation, so photos don’t turn sideways | ||
| Colour profile (ICC) | Kept, so colours look the same | ||
Why “without re-saving” matters
Re-saving a JPG to drop its metadata costs quality every time and changes the file in ways that are hard to check. This tool removes the data blocks and copies the compressed picture as it is: the image is bit-for-bit identical and the file usually gets a little smaller.
Just want to hide where a photo was taken and keep the date and camera? Use remove location from photo. To see a photo’s DPI and print size as well, use check image DPI.
Frequently asked questions
What is EXIF data?
EXIF is information your camera or phone writes into each photo: the device model, settings, date and time, rotation and often the GPS location. XMP and IPTC are similar blocks added by editing apps.
Does removing EXIF reduce quality?
No. Most tools redraw the photo and save it again, which loses a little quality and changes the file. This one deletes the metadata blocks and copies the compressed picture data as it is.
Why doesn’t my photo turn sideways after removing EXIF?
Phone photos are often stored sideways with a rotation tag. Removing that tag would make them show sideways, so the tool keeps a tiny EXIF block with only the rotation (and DPI if needed). Everything else is removed.
Is the colour profile kept?
Yes. The ICC colour profile is kept so colours look the same; it contains no personal information.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The files are read and changed in your browser, so they never leave your device. That matters most for photos that contain your location.
